FOR A MAJOR CREDIT RATING COMPANY:
The client previously purchased a COTS order fulfillment package, which ran on the mainframe in Cobol and VSAM. The system handled invoicing, revenue, reports, orders and some inventory allocation. The front end of the system required manual input as the orders all came in on paper. There was no on-line capability whatsoever and no direct user involvement.
As with most packages, customization was involved. The intricacies, amount of the modifications and on-going support eventually led to their purchase of the package. As technology changed it became increasingly difficult for them to keep the application current and integrate it with newer systems and technology.
The Client Needed:
- To be able to take advantage of new technology by web-enabling the product.
- The new system to be fully on-line so the users can be directly involved in all aspects such as data input, checking order status and inventory control.
- Train the IT staff and user community on new technology thereby insuring employee growth and stability.
VRI SOLUTION:
Through the utilization of VRI’s “Skills Transfer” methodology the client was able to implement the new application in the new technology (Oracle and VB.Net). VRI deployed a staff consisting of 4 individuals: Project Manager, Sr. Data Architect/DBA, Data Analyst and a Sr. Application Developer. The users also were trained in using the new system in a real-time on-line environment.
